The love of my life is Jesus, and generally speaking, my days are filled with great joy. I have peace knowing I am in his hands. Still, there are things in my life that are hard, things I wish were different -- things I wish God would move a little more quickly to change.
Maybe you feel the same way. Perhaps you are at odds with someone who has offended you or you are dealing with an unpleasant situation you are powerless to change. What is the remedy for the turmoil that keeps us all shook up?
For me, it helps to recall the promises of God's Word. They are many, and they are for us! Here are a few I draw on to quiet myself when I feel anxious or upset:
"The LORD your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing" (Zephaniah 3:17, NIV).
"You will not have to fight this battle. Take up your positions; stand firm and see the deliverance the LORD will give you, Judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. Go out to face them tomorrow, and the LORD will be with you'" (2 Chronicles 20:17, NIV).
"Do not fret because of those who are evil or be envious of those who do wrong; for like the grass they will soon wither, like green plants they will soon die away. Trust in the Lord and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture. Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart" (Psalm 37:1-4, NIV).
"The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still" (Exodus 14:14, NIV).
"You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you" (Isaiah 26:3).
