Just Breathe

And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. -- Philippians 4:7, NIV

Where are you right now in life?  Are you sailing along without a care in the world or do feel like a salmon swimming against the current on a long journey to who knows where?   Are you drowning in a tumultuous sea of adversity, grasping for something -- anything -- you can hold onto just to keep your head above water?

For believers, Jesus is our hope, the anchor for our souls (Hebrews 6:19).  The One who walked on water and calmed a raging sea promises perfect peace to those whose eyes are steadfastly fixed on Him (Isaiah 26:3).  Our problem is that like Peter we are so distracted by the roaring waters that we cannot hear the still, small voice of our great God beckoning us to come unto Him (Matthew 14:22-33).  We forget that He is in the midst of our storm and that to reach Him we must step out of the boat!

Paul tells the disciples to "Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus" (1 Thessalonians 5:16-17, NIV).  But isn't that so hard to do when you are dealing with personality conflicts, aging parents, job stress, financial reversal, and illness?  Sometimes it seems all we can do is just breathe.  But it is breath that gives us life and our "breath prayers" that usher in God's presence.

If your heart is so heavy that you feel you cannot pray, just breathe and whisper the name "Jesus."  All you need to say is contained in the name of the One who knows every need you have, every burden you bear, and every hurt you feel.  Just breathe...Jesus.

  1. Thank you for that blog Dee (:
Its true. Sometimes all we can muster is to say His sweet name. The name that is above every name. A strong tower that we run to, and are safe. (: Thank you Jesus.
