Ode to Summer (an original poem)

Fragrant you dawned with promises of pleasure,
Warm sunny days, moments of leisure.
Cool gentle breezes gave way to the heat.
Skin tanned from yard work, from my head to my feet --
Where did you go, Summer?  Why in such haste?
So busy you kept us. No time did we waste.
No lazy days left now. School soon will begin
And each day will find us too busy again.
Oh, Summer, how quickly you leave us once more!
Before long sweet Autumn will knock at our door.
Then Winter will beckon the Spring to appear
And shortly thereafter, you'll be right back here.
